Share PowerPoint Slides

Microsoft Teams provides two methods for sharing slides—PowerPoint Live and regular sharing. We recommend that you use PowerPoint Live because it allows you to control your slides more easily.

PowerPoint Live

  1. Start your Microsoft Teams meeting.
  2. In the Microsoft Teams toolbar, select the Share content icon.
  3. In the Share content dialog box, if your desired PowerPoint file appears in the list of recently opened PowerPoint files, select it.
  4. If your desired PowerPoint file doesn't appear in the list of recently opened PowerPoint files, scroll down to Browse my computer and select it.
  5. In the Open dialog box, navigate to the location on your computer where the desired PowerPoint file is located and select it.
  6. Wait for Teams to upload and prepare the PowerPoint file.
  7. Navigate the slide show as needed. Participants will only see the highlighted slide and any annotations you add to the slide; they will not see the notes pane or the thumbnails pane.

Taking Polls

Microsoft Teams does not have a native polling tool. As an alternative, you can take a poll using chat:

  1. Show a PowerPoint slide containing the poll question and answers.
  2. Direct participants to select the Show conversation icon.
  3. Microsoft Teams will display the Meeting chat pane. Direct participants to type the letter of their answer in the Meeting chat pane and select the Send icon.

Using Whiteboards

Microsoft Teams does not have a native whiteboard tool. As an alternative, you may wish to use Microsoft Whiteboard, a free app for Windows 10 that you can download from the Microsoft Store and share in Microsoft Teams. Some facilitators prefer to use Microsoft Word as a whiteboard.
